IGCP Project No. 381

Dear Colleague,

In this third issue of SAMC News you will find the Minutes relating to the project implementation meeting held in Uberaba, reports from national representatives (ad-hoc), regional coordinators and working group chairmen. Information about forthcoming thematic publications and the schedules of next annual project meetings and field trips is also included.

The First Annual Conference of IGCP Project 381 (SAMC I) will be held next 2-5 September 1996 in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, in conjunction with the XXXIX Brazilian Geological Congress. Please note that the meeting has been moved from Aracaju, as originally planned and announced in SAMC News 2, to Salvador, in order to allow for a joint meeting with a potentially large overlap of interest. The Second Annual Conference (SAMC II) will be held 8-13 March 1997 in Cameroon, in conjunction with the 3è Colloque de Stratigraphie et de Paléogéographie de l'Atlantique Sud et du 13è Colloque Africain de Micropalèontologie.

IGCP Project 381

Project Leaders:

"IGCP is interdisciplinary, covering all specialities of geology, geophysics and geochemistry. IGCP maintains active interfaces with disciplines related to the geological sciences such as marine sciences, atmospheric sciences and biological sciences."

The project newsletter, SAMC News, is the basic source of news and information about SAMC and its participants. It is distributed to all project participants and to others, who we believe might be interested in participating actively in the project. SAMC News and other project information is also available online via Internet (see below).

We invite all participants of SAMC to send us announcements, descriptions and short reports of current research work, information on projects being planned, underway, or recently completed, which relate to the scope of SAMC, literature reviews, etc. to be published in the project newsletters. Comments and discussions of problems within the areas of interest will be especially welcome. For all written communications please submit a printout of the text and a diskette containing the text file in Microsoft Word or WordPerfect format (Macintosh or IBM/Windows). Alternatively, texts may be submitted by e-mail to: koutsoukos@cenpes.petrobras.gov.br. Please do not send text for the newsletter by fax.
