Activity Report of BH&EF
2002
(a) Our Clinic at Skardu has been registered
as Reproductive Healthcare Service Center by the
Government, which entitles it to apply for subsidies for providing
sterilization services to patients.
(b) Medical field camps and family planning services are being
held when sufficient doctors or paramedicals are available, who
undertake motivation and information campaigns in the villages.
(c) Periodical changes in the position of our female doctors
(gynaecologists) is a normal feature of our work. They are locally
not available and become available only from wives accompanying
their husbands serving in the military and being posted in the
area for a period of 3 years. At times thus only one gynaecologist
has to serve at both clinics on alternative days.
(d) In-service-training of our young gynaecologists becomes a
continuous and expensive intervention.
(e) Due to the lack of funds we are still unable to continue
our school health services, although there are requests from
various schools.
(a) Visits to Skardu & Khaplu by Dr.
Nasima took place only in July & Aug 01. The Karakorum
Highway was blocked by local tribesman protesting against the
US-intervention for several days in October and November 01.
However we are proud to report, that both clinics function routinely
well even under such loose supervision, and the staff has proven
to continue their work with dedication.
(b) The campaign for continuity in funding the on going activities
has applied again to Brot-für-die-Welt for a
final one-year support and the Health & Population Welfare
Ministry of the Pakistan Government. We are hopeful.
