| Comments: Known as "Red Pest" occasionally occuring in seawater
aquaria the members of the indo-pacific genus Waminoa can colonialize
corals within a very short period of time. The gutless flatworms (Order:
Acoela)
are able to do so, because they contain endosymbionts (Dinoflagellates)
which perform photosynthesis and share their assimilates (sugars) with
their partner. Under favorable conditions (light!) simple vegetative division
is preferred for reproduction. |
